A COFFEE van has welcomed its first customers at the White Horse this weekend after it received a licence to trade at the landmark from Wiltshire Council.
Last month, councillors from Westbury Town Council received criticism from residents when they objected to the application from Really Awesome Coffee to trade at the White Horse car park. Amongst the concerns raised by the council was that if the application was approved, it would lead to an increase in single-use plastics and litter in the area.
Following this, residents took to social media to show considerable support for a coffee van at the White Horse, and councillors were criticised for being ‘out of touch’ with what local residents wanted. The decision was ultimately made by Wiltshire Council and permission was granted.
On their first day of trading from the White Horse car park, White Horse News caught up with Heidi Lancaster and Richard Clark, who run Really Awesome Coffee.
Richard said, “We regularly visit the White Horse and have often thought how good it would be to have a coffee van up here. In my view, there is nothing better than when you are on a nice walk, out running, or cycling, and you can stop, have a drink, and then be on your way. It’s perfect. We are both local residents – Heidi has lived in Westbury her whole life, and I’ve lived here for 17 years.”
Really Awesome Coffee offers a range of gourmet coffee, luxury hot chocolates, as well as iced coffees, frappes, and freshly prepared milkshakes for warmer days. They also serve a selection of cakes and other sweet treats. Heidi added, “It’s just nice to be able to give people a choice.”
One customer said, “I come up here regularly to walk my dog and am very pleased to be able to enjoy a coffee here too. My wife and I both bought a coffee; it was delicious. It was lovely to enjoy it with such beautiful views.”
