LOCAL MP Andrew Murrison has secured a debate in the chamber of the House of Commons on special needs in Wiltshire.
It follows Wiltshire Council’s plans to close Larkrise School in Trowbridge and St Nicholas in Chippenham in order to build a new larger special school at Rowde near Devizes.
Dr Murrison who was a governor of a special school before he was elected, attended the recent march in support of the two threatened schools.
He said; “I very much commend the council for being prepared to spend serious money on improving special needs provision in the county. However, I am amazed that it wants to close Larkrise which is rated Good by Ofsted. My vulnerable young constituents and their families want the money spent on Larkrise, rather than on a new mega school miles from home.
“I strongly urge the council to think again and I hope the minister will help.”
