Residents of Dilton Marsh have once again come together to create blankets for those in need in Ukraine, sending 25 more handmade blankets this month after a previous shipment of 50 blankets earlier in the year.
This spring, members of Holy Trinity Church’s Eco Church initiative and local knitters from the Community Blanket Project worked together to produce 50 blankets, which they sent through the Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership to support those displaced by the crisis in Ukraine. The community’s ongoing support has now resulted in a further 25 blankets for those in need as winter approaches.
Lynne Vercoe from the White Horse Team Ministry said, “The blankets will be very welcome as the winter months are upon many displaced people in Ukraine. We send another big thank you, not just to the knitters and crocheters but to those who helped sew it all together, as they’ve pulled everything together!”
The blankets were created by members of the community, including many who gather at “Wooley Wednesdays” at the Weavers Pub at 2pm each Wednesday. Lynne explained, “This isn’t where all the blanket squares are made; many are made at home, often using up spare wool or donations specifically for this project, fitting in between larger knitting projects.”
