WESTBURY’S Christmas celebrations are in full swing, undeterred by a stormy start. From festive events to charity initiatives, the town’s community spirit remains as bright as ever.
Festivities begin despite stormy start
The much-anticipated Christmas lights switch-on was scaled back this year due to Storm Darragh, but the festive season is now in full swing. The lights were illuminated during a smaller ceremony the night before the storm, with 10-year-old Max Griffin from Westbury Leigh Primary School joining Mayor Cllr Jane Russ and Deputy Mayor Cllr Mark Bailey to mark the occasion.
Residents are encouraged to visit the High Street and Market Place to enjoy the beautiful displays and participate in a variety of festive activities planned throughout December, including an elf hunt, Christmas carols by candlelight, and a Boxing Day dog walk.

Community support shines bright
While the town celebrates, local groups are making sure no one is left behind this festive season. Organisations like the Westbury Area Network (WAN), Crosspoint, and the White Horse Day Centre are working tirelessly to provide food, advice, and a sense of connection for those in need.
The town’s food bank is seeing record demand, with volunteers preparing festive food parcels and wrapping gifts for families. Residents are urged to donate items like mince pies, chocolates, and other treats to help bring holiday cheer to local families.

Charity lights brighten Coach Road
Adding to the festive atmosphere, local resident Andy Burden’s stunning Christmas lights display on Coach Road is drawing crowds and raising funds for Alzheimer’s Support. For 13 years, Andy has transformed his home into a beacon of holiday joy, with this year’s display featuring a new digital tree that plays music and festive greetings.
Last year, the lights raised over £200 for charity, and Andy is hoping to beat that total this year. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, enjoy the spectacle, and leave a donation in the collection box to support the vital work of Alzheimer’s Support.
