A TEAM of green fingered local volunteers have helped to create a new English woodland at Thoulstone Park near Chapmanslade.
James and Alka Hughes Hallett, the owners of Thoulstone Park had appealed for volunteers to take part in the tree planting event and were overwhelmed with the response and enthusiasm from local people.
Local groups including Westbury Scouts joined James and Alka Hughes-Hallett, for the planting event. The volunteer planting, carried out in association with the Woodland Trust, saw a mix of 1,000 English deciduous trees planted on Sunday 16th February.
In total 28,480 trees across 51 acres of the Thoulstone Park site will have been planted by end March 2014 making the ecological enhancement project the largest native woodland creation in the South-West of England this year.
James said, “The response from local people has been fantastic. There is a real sense of community about the project, and the energy and enthusiasm people brought to the inaugural planting event was superb.”
The Thoulstone Park Eco-Sustainable Community Project aims to create a mixed-use eco-community founded on tourist and sustainable based commerce and employment, with associated living, set within a high quality bio-diverse rich environment.
