Corsley Festival Choir will spend the next few weeks rehearsing for their Christmas concert entitled ‘Magnificat’.
The concert will take place at St Margaret’s Church in the village from 7.30pm on Sunday 11th December.
The choir’s Peter Bennett says, “The concert will open with Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, a very beautiful and well known piece. This will be followed by Eric Thiman’s The Nativity. This was a popular Christmas choral work dating from the 1930s, which has now almost been forgotten.
“The main work, as the concert title suggests, is Magnificat composed by John Rutter around 1990. An uplifting and joyful piece of choral music ideal for Christmas time. This will be performed in the second half of the concert.
“The concert will be conducted by Stephen Smith and the soprano soloist will be Sophie Gallagher, one time head chorister at Wells Cathedral School, who is currently South West music scholar for the English Speaking Union, studying at the Royal College of Music.”
