VOLUNTEERS at the Westbury food bank say they have been busier than usual with demand for their services and they are seeing the rising cost-of-living impact single people in the town.
The food bank volunteers are encouraging people in the local community to get in contact if they are in need of support and they are asking others who may know people who need a helping hand, to consider seeking a referral to the food bank.
A spokesperson for the food bank says, “The volunteers are busier than ever with the need locally increasing due to the cost-of-living having a detrimental impact on single people, as well as families. Sadly, in our local community we have a few people who are homeless and have been in need of our support.
“One of the difficulties that we have helping those that are homeless is that their cooking facilities are very limited, so any foods donated that can just be easily heated up, or foods that have boiling water added, will be most helpful.
“If you are finding yourself or you know someone else who is struggling and would benefit from our support, please reach out. We are here to help you, and we do not want people to feel they are alone.
“You can contact us directly on 07780 072619 or email us at westburyareanetwork@gmail.com. Anyone using the food bank will require a referral, but you can be referred via your GP, Crosspoint, school or other professional agency.
“We are always very grateful to the people of Westbury who kindly donate to the food bank. People are so generous in our community and we honestly could not continue to help those in need without you all. We appreciate that in these difficult financial times, that this a big ask for people to continue to donate. We have plenty of nappies and ladies’ sanitary items at the present time, so we do not require any of these items at the moment.”
The food bank is run by the Westbury Area Network and supported by volunteers. For more information visit https://westburyareanetwork.org/
