Crosspoint, the Westbury charity, is looking for new volunteers to help staff the drop-in sessions that are held throughout the week.
Visitors to Crosspoint can be assured of a listening ear, access to information, help with using the computer or getting in contact with government organisations.
“Our volunteers are absolutely key in making visitors to the centre feel welcome” said Hilary Fairfield. “We particularly need volunteers who like working with people, are good at listening and are confident in helping clients use the computer.
“We also would welcome contact from anybody who has skills or experience that may be of use to those who visit Crosspoint. We are looking for volunteers who can offer about two-and-a half hours every week or fortnight.”
Now into its eighth year, the need for Crosspoint’s services seems to be as much as ever. The organisation relies wholly on volunteers and has no paid staff. It exists due to the goodwill of the town council, grants and donations from local organisations and individuals.
In addition to the successful partnership with the Warminster Food Bank, which enables Crosspoint to provide crisis food boxes to people in the local community, other services that are offered include:
• Provision of fresh food on an ad-hoc basis through the Tesco FoodShare initiative;
• Access to debt advice and counselling
• Counselling sessions for both adults and for young people;
• Crisis equipment (eg. tents, sleeping bags, cooking stoves) for people living rough.
Anybody interested in making a difference within the local community should contact Crosspoint by email on info@crosspoint-westbury.co.uk or drop into the centre when it is open on Monday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning or Saturday mornings.
