Local charity Crosspoint is calling on Westbury residents to consider making a New Year’s resolution to give back to the community.
With a rise in demand for its services, the organisation is looking for new volunteers to join its team in 2025.
Crosspoint chair Kevin Fairman told White Horse News, “If one of your resolutions for the New Year is to help people in the local community who may be less fortunate than you are, then please come and talk to us at Crosspoint.
“We always welcome new volunteers with empathy and good listening skills to meet the increasing demand for our services.
“Crosspoint has seen a further increase this year of 15% for people coming into the drop-in centre compared with 2023. Similarly with our 1-1 counselling service too.
“The number of issues and complexity that each person is having to deal with has increased significantly with the ongoing cost of living crisis.
“In 2024, we had +850 visits from people looking for help which our team of volunteers are happy to provide.
“It may be helping people with completing forms such as Personal Independence Payments (PIP), Attendance Allowance, Carers Allowance, Blue Badge applications, etc.
“And don’t worry, if you aren’t familiar with the above, then your volunteer colleagues will help train you.
“All you need is a small amount of time each month, to be a good listener and have patience and empathy when supporting people.”
