Wed. 20th Apr. Hellenic League Supplementary Cup Westbury United 3 Stonehouse Town 2
FRESH from their promotion celebrations, Westbury were pushed all the way by a determined Stonehouse side.
Town keeper Adam Clark managed to save an early shot on target from Harvey Flippance, then he saw his team go ahead on eight minutes when Lee Keveren got the final touch after a corner kick. United equalised on 18’ when Ryan Bole’s brilliant ball found Sam Jordan who took a touch and finished confidently.Â
The rest of the half was a quiet affair with numerous set pieces at both ends being well defended, while Clark and home keeper, Ed Baldy, made a few routine saves.Â
Stonehouse captain, Alex Kibble, let fly from long range just after the break. Then at the other end, Clark excelled to save Dan Price’s header, then tip the ball away from under his crossbar twice in quick succession.Â
Tim Williams took advantage of a rare Steve Hulbert error, but his attempt was off target. A few minutes later, Jordan could have put Westbury ahead, however although his finish beat Clark, it also rolled past the post.Â
Williams shocked Meadow Lane by powering in a header to regain the lead for the visitors on 64, but his joy was short-lived because from the kick off, the ball was played to Flippance and his strike was clinical to make it 2-2.Â
The winning goal came from the penalty spot on 70’; Flippance was fouled and after consultation with his assistant, the referee gave the penalty and Steve Hulbert smashed it past Clark!Â
Stonehouse had several chances to force a penalty shoot-out but couldn’t find the net- then, with time running out, both Jack Biddiscombe and Jordan went close for United.Â
