AFTER a lengthy break due to the recent weather, Westbury Youth Tigers got back into action against Mere with a narrow 3-2 defeat.
The first half produced few clear chances for either team, with some great defending for Westbury by Jaiden Smith and Liam Bishop. The away side pushed forward with Marcus Gilroy and Olly Seviour having shots on goal, but the score was 0-0 at half-time. Early into the second half Ryan Hodge kept Westbury in the game with some great saves. The visitors continued to work hard and were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes remaining, which Joe Willis converted after a rebound off the bar.
Despite some good work in midfield from Haydn Marshman and Declan Ladd for Westbury, the home side came back strongly with three goals in quick succession. With three minutes remaining Westbury were awarded a second penalty, which Corey Gardner duly converted, but Mere held on well for the win.
