Over 60 entrants took part in this year’s Dilton Marsh Flower and Handicraft Show, showcasing more than 170 exhibits including flowers, vegetables, handicrafts, cookery and photography.
Organised by dedicated volunteers who have been preparing since October, the show took place last month at the village’s Memorial Hall.
“There was lots of pointing, smiles, and chatting amongst villagers, with refreshments served by the Dilton Amateur Gardening Club,” said chair and committee member Angie Gibbs. “It’s quite early in the season for homegrown vegetables, and despite low numbers, some people still managed to enter a good standard of vegetables. The flowers and floral art are always a delight to the eyes, and the scent of the sweet peas filled the hall.”
The photography section was popular, and this year’s group display theme was sport, nodding to this year’s Olympic Games. “They were a pleasure to look at,” said Angie.
Trophies were awarded to those with the most points gained in each section of the show. The winners of the trophies were Andrew Jones, Ann Frisby, Sara Honor, Helen Jones, Martin Honor, Little Marshians Toddler Group, Dilton Marsh WI and Zac in the Under 18s.
“There were a few new names that entered the show this year, which is super exciting, and we love nothing more than encouraging people to enter,” Angie said. “When people come to view the show, there is always someone commenting that they could have entered more or wished they had entered, so if that’s you, don’t hold back—enter next year, you’ll love it!”
“The show only happens because of the kind and generous sponsorship from local businesses, including main sponsors Valletta Surfacing Ltd and Dilton Marsh Parish Council. Organisers would like to thank all of them for their support.”
