Our AGM took place on 4th October, where we unfortunately had to say a fond farewell to Chris Good who was stepping down to have a well-earned rest as our chairman. Chris and his wife Pam have been the driving force of our club and will be sorely missed by all.
A new committee was then elected consisting of 4 new members and one existing member. This committee met a week later and duly elected the following officers:- Chairman – Martin Wakelin; Treasurer – Maureen Flynn;; Secretary – Sally Esposito; Committee – Eunice Stride, Margaret Wakelin.
This committee has now planned a provisional programme for the next three months. We had many really good suggestions for meetings from members at the AGM and we will be following up on some of them to produce the programme for 2019. We hope that the usual outing, the plant stall at the village day and the barbecue will all feature in the programme.
The next meeting will be on 1st November when David Robinson, horticulture trainer at Fairfield Community Farm, will give a talk entitled ‘Putting the Garden to Bed’
If members would like to know the pH of their soil then he will test a few of them if you bring just a small handful of soil. So if you are convinced that your soil is too acidic or too alkaline and that’s why things won’t grow, then now is the chance to prove it. Maybe however it is just that you are trying to grow plants not suited to your soil – so come along to the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm on 1st November and find out.
