A MAN has been jailed for two years for engaging in sexual communication with a child.
Bryan Carpenter, 61, of Fairwood Road, Dilton Marsh, was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court after he pleaded guilty to two counts of inciting sexual activity/sexual communication with a child.
In August last year, Carpenter used a website to communicate with a profile of a user he believed was 13-year old and encouraged them to engage in sexual activity.
As well as the two-year prison sentence, Carpenter was issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order which will remain in place for 10 years and is managed by the Wiltshire Police’s Public Protection Unit.
Det Con Julia Vince said: “I know that offences of this nature are hugely concerning to the local community.
“Please be reassured that the Sexual Harm Prevention Order has been put in place to safeguard the public and ensure that Carpenter no longer has opportunities to engage in this sort of criminal activity and cause harm within our communities.”
