An outing to Old Arlesford in the diocese of Winchester helped us to celebrate Mary Sumner Day on August 9th.
This is where Mary Sumner had a meeting with a few women of the parish which grew into the world wide movement we enjoy today and which has more than 3.6 million members in 78 countries.
As well as looking around the former rectory and seeing slides of its changes over the years, we also attended a service at the church of St. Mary the Virgin close by and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the grounds of Old Arlesford Place.
The next day, by kind invitation of the Westbury Mothers Union branch, we joined them for their Garden Party at the home of Mary Jenkins where we were made most welcome and enjoyed a delicious tea on the lawn.
