A parish councillor has stepped down after serving the Dilton Marsh community since 1985.
Councillor Alison Irving has spent 40 years in the role, including a spell as Chair of the Parish Council.
She said, “It has been a great pleasure and honour to have been involved in the village of Dilton Marsh over the years and in keeping the village such a great, busy and welcoming community.
“I am very proud of the people of Dilton and the way in which they help and support each other in so many ways.
“I also thank and recognise the time and effort by all the volunteers running the many activities and the parish councillors who have always worked for the benefit of the village.
“I would ask that more people become parish councillors as there is so much we could do with more man (or woman) power! It does not take a lot of your time but could help achieve so much more for the village.
“I wish the future council well in the years to come and have every confidence in them.”
In a statement, Dilton Marsh Parish Council said, “The parish council wishes to express its sincere and heartfelt thanks to Cllr Irving for her many, many years of dedicated and loyal service to the parish council, its parishioners and the parish as a whole.
“Cllr Irving’s efforts have truly made a difference to the council and the parish and her guidance and knowledge has been instrumental in many council projects.
“She will be greatly missed.”
