A local primary school has been honoured for its exceptional commitment to creating a thriving, inclusive and supportive environment where every child can succeed.
Westbury Leigh Church of England Primary School has received the Thrive Environment Ambassador Award for Outstanding Inclusive and Supportive Practice, which recognises the school’s dedication to fostering a safe and empowering space for all students.
Headteacher Mrs Grimsey, said, “Our vision has always been to create a school where every child feels safe, supported, and empowered to grow.
“Receiving the Environment Ambassador Award confirms that our approach to emotional wellbeing and inclusive education is making a real impact. We’re incredibly proud of our staff and students.”
Westbury Leigh was praised for welcoming meet-and-greet systems, thoughtful transitions, and comprehensive breakfast and after-school clubs staffed by Thrive-trained professionals.
In addition, the school’s innovative outdoor learning spaces, sensory-rich environments, and dedicated school farm were celebrated for playing a vital role in enhancing children’s emotional wellbeing and nurturing their connection to nature. Creative spaces like the ‘Circle’ and the ‘Den’ rooms also support children at Westbury Leigh.
Sabrina Thomas, SEND Lead and member of the school’s pastoral team, said, “Our children know that their feelings matter. Whether it’s through time in the Den, planting vegetables on the school farm, or simply being welcomed each morning with a smile – they feel heard, understood, and valued.”
