HOLY Trinity Church of Dilton Marsh is once again hosting a sewing day at the Dilton Marsh Memorial Hall, with the aim of making as many reusable sanitary pads for those dealing with period poverty.
The event will take place on Saturday 30th April from 10am to 4pm. Organisers praised the success of last year’s event and hope this year can be just as successful.
One of the organisers said, “23 women met at the event last year and brought with them sewing machines, scissors, large quantities of fabrics, and an iron, with the aim to make as many reusable sanitary towels for the Pachamama Project as possible. At the end of the day, nearly 100 pads had been made and they were soon on their way to a refugee camp in Uganda.”
The event is part of the ‘Pachamama Project’, who send pads to refugees and vulnerable women suffering from period poverty in Greece, Turkey, USA, Lebanon, Uganda and even the UK. The project hope to send products to Ukraine and its border countries as soon as a supply chain is created.
Refreshments will be available on the day, but organisers have asked for people to bring your own lunch. Find out more details from office@whtministry.org.uk
