LARGER than life actor, writer and presenter Brian Blessed is leading the spring lineup at the Memorial Theatre in Frome.

Known for his hearty, king-sized portrayals on film and television and booming, operatic voice, he is also an avid explorer and climber and ‘An Evening with Brian Blessed’ will combine anecdotes from his illustrious acting career with tales of his adventures.

He’s appearing at the Memorial on Friday 10th June and with a career spanning more than 50 years, there is no shortage of material. On screen, he has appeared in everything from Doctor Who to Kenneth Branagh’s Shakespeare films. On stage his credits range from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. And his trademark booming voice has also featured on everything from Peppa Pig character Grampy Rabbit to a voice download on TomTom’s sat nav system.

He is also an avid climber and will also be talking about his Everest climb without oxygen; his expedition to the jungles of Venezuela during which he survived a plane crash; his trek to the North Pole (he is the oldest man to go to the Pole on foot) and his many hours of space training in Russia!

The show is an experience that nobody should miss! His eloquence and humour will have the audience captured from the moment he walks on stage until the moment he leaves.

His show may not be suitable for people of a nervous disposition or those who aren’t expecting the odd expletive!

Other shows coming up at the Memorial are:

The Fureys

Thursday 12th May @7.30pm. Tickets £23

Legends of Irish music,  The Fureys, renowned for their hit songs I Will Love You, When You Were Sweet 16, The Green Fields Of France, The Old Man, Red Rose Café, From Clare To Here, Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway, Leaving Nancy, Steal Away etc return for their fifth concert here on Thursday 12th May.

GO NOW! The Music of The Moody Blues

Saturday 14th May @7.30pm. Tickets £24.50

An opportunity for fans to experience this timeless music live, in a tribute to the greatest classic rock band of a generation and Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers, The Moody Blues.

Gordy Marshall toured and recorded with The Moody Blues for 25 years and together with Mick Wilson (lead singer of 10CC for 20 years) they present a super-group of world class musicians, singers and songwriters and meticulously recreate the elegance of a Moody Blues concert.

In this show, all the classic hits are celebrated, including Nights in White Satin, Go Now, Tuesday Afternoon, Legend of a Mind (Timothy Leary’s Dead), I Know You’re Out There Somewhere, Question, Isn’t Life Strange, plus Forever Autumn and a show-stealing rendition of Eve of the War from Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds.

Jive Talkin’ present

The Bee Gees

Saturday 21st May @ 7.30pm. Tickets £21

The original and best Bee Gees tribute band is back in Frome by popular demand.

Prepare to be amazed as the timeless repertoire of the Bee Gees is brought to life with such stunning authenticity and heart-felt sincerity, that you will feel as if you are at a real Bee Gees concert. This stunning 7 piece ensemble is fronted by real-life family members Darren, Gary and Jack Simmons making for an unrivalled vocal harmony blend.

Jive Talkin’ deliver a powerhouse performance that is charged with emotion to produce a show unlike any other, to create a truly nostalgic journey through our most treasured musical memories.

This show will take you on an emotional journey from tender orchestrated ‘60s classics such as Massachusetts and Words, to the ‘70s disco classics such as Night Fever, Stayin’ Alive and Tragedy. An unforgettable evening that will have you both reaching for your handkerchiefs and dancing in the aisles.

That’ll Be The Day

35th Anniversary Tour

Saturday 28th May

@ 7:30 pm. Tickets £26

That’ll Be The Day reaches another milestone this year as it celebrates its 35th anniversary!

From humble beginnings, the show has grown into a “must see” attraction all over the UK, coming up with a new production from its multi-talented cast year after year.

Unashamedly nostalgic, TBTD takes its audience on a rollercoaster ride through the ‘golden’ age of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Pop.

The show has been described as ‘Relentlessly Entertaining,’ mixing brilliant vocals and superb musicianship with impersonations and hilarious comedy routines.

Guaranteed a great night out, this is truly the best ‘feel good’ show on the road. You won’t be disappointed!
