Westbury residents have been taking time to stretch, relax and enjoy the outdoors this summer thanks to free weekly park yoga sessions.
The sessions, organised by Westbury Town Council and Wiltshire & Swindon Sport (WASP), take place at Grassacres Park every Sunday at 9.30am.
The community initiative began in early May and the final class will be held on Sunday 13th September.
Instructor Yara Sklenarova said, “I have been absolutely delighted by the response to Park Yoga in Westbury. Seeing people of all ages and abilities and children coming together on Sunday mornings to move, breathe and enjoy some time outdoors has been really special.
“We started with around 30 people attending, and our numbers have continued to grow, reaching 46 people at one session.
“It has been wonderful to see familiar faces returning each week as well as new people joining us for the first time. I feel very proud to be part of creating a friendly and welcoming space where people can look after their wellbeing, connect with others and start their Sunday feeling positive and refreshed.”
Westbury Mayor Carole King said, “I’m really pleased to see that the Park Yoga is so popular, not only that the park itself is being used but that so many people are realizing that outdoor exercise is so beneficial to one’s mental and physical health. Long may it continue!”
