FREE car parking in the town will return in the next couple of months after councillors voted overwhelming to fund two free hours’ parking.
At the Westbury Town Council meeting earlier this month, councillors agreed that two free hours of car parking in the town’s car parks would be beneficial for the town.
Westbury Town Council was offered by Wiltshire Council either one hour or two hours’ free parking in the High Street, Warminster Road and Westfield House car parks and whilst councillors acknowledge that free parking won’t solve all the problems of the decline of the town centre, they agreed free parking would hugely benefit the vitality of the town centre and give local businesses a boost.
It will cost Westbury Town Council £35,727 to fund the two free hours, but councillors say it is money well spent if it brings people into the town.
