PLANS for a community campus in Westbury will come one step closer next week (Thursday 6th February) when the Westbury Area Board unveils full details of what local people want.
The meeting at Leigh Park Community Centre will hear from the people who carried out the recent consultation which quizzed people on where they would like a campus and what it might consist of. As well as voting to keep the town’s library, historic Victorian swimming pool and recreation centre, people voiced their concerns about their town’s heritage and listed buildings, about the vitality of the town centre and about the importance of keeping services where people would easily access them.
Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott will also be attending the meeting on Thursday 6th February. She will be talking about ways the county might mark the anniversary of World War 1 and will outline other community projects and opportunities taking place across the county. The area board will also hear details of temporary changes to A36 traffic that could increase lorry traffic on the A350 through Westbury, the bid by the police commissioner to boost the amount local people pay in council tax for policing and updates on a range of highways and other issues.
The board’s councillors will also be voting on a wide range of grant applications worth more than £30,000. They range from an outdoor learning area for Matravers through to sports facilities, village hall refurbishments and extra funds for the Crosspoint welcome centre.
“The area board meeting is packed full of major and relevant local issues that affect our communities. It’s a great opportunity for local people to come along, have their say and find out more,” said chairman Russell Hawker.
The meeting starts at 7.00pm with refreshments from 6.30pm. The Leigh Park Community Centre has car parking and is adjacent to the Tesco Express shop in Leigh Park.
