CONCERNS have been raised in the town that Westbury Community Campus may not materialise due to funding issues at Wiltshire Council.
Those fears have emerged after comments made at the recent Westbury Area Board meeting by Councillor Jonathon Seed, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for campuses who said some campus proposals may not happen ‘due to funding’.
The meeting attracted a large audience in anticipation of the town’s exciting three-site proposal being revealed. But, comments on the night have left some people in Westbury concerned.
After the plans for Westbury were unveiled on the evening cllr Jonathon Seed explained that while the campus programme countywide was facing funding restrictions, he would do what he could to get behind the proposals.
And although he described the proposals as excellent, he warned that not all of the proposals were likely to find funding.
It is these comments that have caused concern in the town, with fears that, after a long and expensive consultation locally, it may all come to nothing.
White Horse News contacted Wiltshire Council asking for reassurance about the campus proposals. This is the reply we had from Cllr Jonathon Seed.
“I am pleased to receive a proposal for Westbury Campus from the area board and I would like to thank everyone in the community for their hard work in submitting this draft,” he said.
“Our aim is to enable all our communities to become stronger and the campus programme will help them to achieve this at a pace that suits them. We want to encourage communities to look at where campuses or hubs can be located to host a range of services and activities that meet local needs.
“As with all our campus proposals, we will now look at the Westbury plans in great detail and make sure the plans are financially feasible and agree the next steps in the process.”
