Are you looking to meet new people as well as help others in your community?
Then DEVELOP Enhancing Community Support can help. Whether you’ve got a few hours a month or a day a week there’s a volunteering opportunity out there to suit you.
One such volunteer said, “Volunteering provides me with the chance to do meaningful work that enhances the community and makes me feel useful.”
Here are just a few opportunities available locally:
Young Reporter: Fancy yourself as a Young Reporter? SparkSite is a website run by young people, for young people and if you are between 13 and 19 they would love you to get involved. They are looking for young reporters to go out and write about what is happening across Wiltshire.
This can really cover anything that interests you, you could attend local events, gigs or influential meetings, all of which would involve interviewing performers and the audience and then reporting back on the site.
Befriender and Mentor: VOICE Independent Visitor Service supports young people who are in care. They are looking for volunteers who can befriend a young person offering them consistency, support, encouragement and a listening ear.
Summer Reading Challenge Volunteer 2014: The national Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged four to 11 to keep reading throughout the summer holidays (when there is a recognised ‘dip’ in reading progress). The aim is to help children to develop a love of reading and improve their reading ability. Wiltshire Libraries are looking for volunteers to support and encourage children aged four to 11 taking part in the national Summer Reading Challenge.
Community School Governor SGOSS: Governors for Schools are looking for volunteers who can help a local school with budgetary allocation, appointment of staff members and setting the curriculum all to ensure the children receive a sound education. You will work as part of a team, putting the school in a positive strategic direction.
DEVELOP also have details of various gardening, environmental, befriending, mentoring, administration, IT and many other roles.
