Latest figures show more of Wiltshire’s young people are succeeding in education, work or training, according to Wiltshire Council.

The council reports, “Figures for May 2014, the latest available, show the number of 16-18 year olds, Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEETs) in Wiltshire was 4% compared with the national average of 5.4%.

“The figures follow a range of partnership working and innovative schemes by Wiltshire Council and partners to support and help young people work out the best options for their futures.”

Laura Mayes, cabinet member for children services said, “These figures prove the work we do alongside our partners is having a positive impact and helping these young people make good choices at key times in their lives.

“Although these figures are encouraging, we cannot be complacent and we will continue with partnership working and innovative ideas to help our young people access the support they need so they can have the good start they deserve and fulfil their potential.”

Fleur de Rhe Philipe cabinet member for economic development said, “Partnership working is key to all this, both from the council and through the Wiltshire Education, Employment and Skills Board, which provides Wiltshire’s young people with access to opportunities and the right support from education into the workplace.”

“Wiltshire’s young people can also get support from the Your Choices website www.wiltshire choices.org.uk/

“There is also a dedicated Facebook page offering updates and information on events and things to do, jobs, training and education opportunities. www.facebook.com/WiltshireYouth
