GOODING Accounts’ super-human team of Sam Gooding and Sherelyn Cowles are not strangers to an ultra-marathon, but this year, they’ll be taking on an enormous challenge in support of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice – running not one, not two, but an eye-watering five ultra marathons this summer.
They’ll tackle one race every month between May and September, running a whopping 450km in total – the same as the distance from Gooding Accounts’ Westbury office to the Lake District!
Their ‘Summer of Ultras’ challenge will include the 100km runs: London to Brighton Ultra Challenge, Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge, Race to the Stones, Thames Path Ultra Challenge, and the very hilly 50km South West Coast Ultra Challenge.
Corporate fundraiser for Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, Jo Common, commented, “We have so much admiration for Sam and Sherelyn taking on this momentous challenge. They are training so incredibly hard, and it is wonderful to see their passion and drive for supporting Julia’s House.
“We provide care for our children and their families, at home and in the hospice. 90% of our children now need two members of care staff at a community session because of their complex needs. We are therefore so grateful to have the wonderful support of Sam and Sherelyn to help us raise the much-needed funds to provide this lifeline of care for our families.”
Last week, the duo from Gooding Accounts visited Julia’s House Children’s Hospice in Devizes to find out more about the practical and emotional support they provide for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition across Wiltshire and Dorset.
The safe and homely environment of their hospice allows children to have an enjoyable experience while providing vital respite for their families. A huge 92% of the funding for the amazing work of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice comes from the community; that’s why the Gooding Accounts team has chosen to support them as part of their ten-year anniversary charity fundraising challenge. Sherelyn said, “As a mother, it’s impossible to imagine how you must feel if you know you will likely outlive your child. It’s been a privilege to visit the hospice and learn more about the inspiring work the charity do to support the children and their families. I’ll be thinking about where the money is going with every single mile I run!”
Sam and Sherelyn have been pounding the pavements of Wiltshire in rain, ice and even snow as they train for their epic challenge. You can follow their journey and support Julia’s House Children’s Hospice by visiting the Gooding Accounts’ website www.goodingaccounts.co.uk
