A LOCAL woman has had her hair cut, raising over £1,200 for Bristol Children’s hospital, who treated her great-niece two-years ago.
Sarah Hurkett had been growing her hair for over a year, yet had her hair cut at Gossip Coffee & Whine bar on Friday 17th May. This marked the 2nd anniversary of when her great-niece Amaya-Rose Rumbold has open-heart surgery at the age of five-weeks old.
Amaya-Rose, who is now 2 years old, was transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital weeks after she was born, after it was identified that she was having problems with her heart.
Sarah explains, “They (Bristol Children’s Hospital) repaired three holes in her heart successfully. She is still continuing to have scans on a regular basis due to there still being a few unresolved mysteries within her heart. She may need to have further surgery in the future, but all is well for the time being.
The event has currently raised over £1,200 for the Wallace and Gromit’sGrand Appeal at Bristol Children’s Hospital with more being counted from the event and Sarah’s hair was donated to The Little Princess Trust, who provide real hair wigs to children and young people experiencing hair loss.
