WESTBURY will be marking Remembrance Sunday with the annual parade and service in the town on Sunday 11th November.
This year, the parade will take a different route which will commence in the Market Place. The service and silence will be held at the war memorial as usual.
The parade will gather at around 10.10am before setting off at 10.30am, marching from the Market Place along West End, into the High Street, and on to the war memorial for the service. The service will commence at around 10.40am before observing the silence at 11.00am, after which wreaths will be laid by representatives from organisations in the town.
Eddie Bridges, president of the Westbury Branch of the Royal British Legion said, “This is a change of format, the older people now find it difficult to march down Haynes Road.
“This year those marching will include the ATC [Air Training Corps], army cadets, St John Ambulance, the police, and scouts and guides.”
Come rain or shine, the people of Westbury have always shown their respect on Remembrance Sunday. Eddie said, “It’s been growing every year. I would have thought we’d had in the region of 400-500 people last year. People just want to say thank you to those who’ve died.”
