DILTON Marsh will have its own little taste of Antiques Roadshow next weekend when local auctioneers host a valuation day at the Memorial Hall.
An afternoon of antiques valuations will take place at the hall on Saturday 5th March, from 2pm. Valuations will cost £1 per item and will be carried out by Nicky Houston and Gareth Wasp from Mendip Auction Rooms, both of whom are experienced fine arts valuers.
Organiser Garth Brocksopp said, “This sort of event hasn’t been held in the village in the recent past, so we’re hoping it will prove to be very popular.
“We hope people will visit on the day, bring a friend, and bring their treasures to be examined by an expert. You might discover that the old pot, plate or vase hidden in the back of a cupboard turns out to be a valuable piece of Chinese china!”
Members of the Holy Trinity Church have organised the event as entertainment for the community, and any profits made will go towards building a new porch at the church.
Garth continued, “We heard that Nicky occasionally supports churches in need of funds for particular projects, and called her to ask if she would be willing to help us.
“Currently we are looking at installing an internal glass porch in our church but are in need of raising additional funds before we can start.
“Our main aim for the event is to encourage interaction between villagers and to put on an enjoyable occasion to promote a pleasant village life. The raising of money for maintaining the church is very much a secondary priority.”
All are welcome and there will also be refreshments of tea, coffee, and cakes available throughout the afternoon.
