WESTBURY resident, Grace Young, is teaming up with the town’s Community Engagement Officer, Liam Cripps, to organise a litter pick of the White Horse.
The litter pick will take place on Saturday 28th April between 2-5pm. All equipment will be provided and they are hoping to raise funds to provide refreshments to reward all the hard work.
Grace Young said, “I am up there most days walking the dogs and am saddened to see the amount of rubbish lurking. In my three years of living in Westbury I’ve only ever seen one litter pick going on and it feels like the area is really overlooked. It will be so satisfying to get up there and give it a much deserved spring clean.”
Arguably Westbury’s main tourist attraction, the area is home to important historical remains and is rich in wildlife including the rare Adonis Blue butterfly and the scarce forester moth. Grace and Liam hope others reading this, young and old, will be keen to join forces and protect the area.
Grace continued, “Plastic pollution in our seas has become headline news thanks to the recent BBC series Blue Planet II and it is important to remember that though we are not by the sea, pollution is easily carried in the wind or down rivers and Greenpeace estimate 1.15-2.41 million tons of plastic reaches the sea every year – that’s up to 100,000 rubbish trucks. Let’s try and make sure Westbury isn’t contributing.”
