The new term at Matravers is well under way and the recently appointed headteacher, Dr Simon Riding, is already enhancing the growing reputation that Matravers has within the local community.
Dr Riding said, “My aims and ambitions for Matravers are very simple; they are to establish a world-class centre for education and learning at the heart of the community of Westbury.
“Every student who attends Matravers will exceed their potential in all aspects of their education. Outstanding teaching, learning and leadership will guarantee this. Matravers will be the number one choice for every parent who lives in Westbury.”
Many new students have already been welcomed into the Matravers School community since the start of term.
Dr Riding added, “I believe that parents and students are really buying into our core values which we are embedding across our school in all that we do. These values reflect our approach to ensuring that our students receive the most fulfilling and rewarding education possible.
“These values are: resilience, creativity, ambition, happiness, success and dynamism. Our students already possess these core values in abundance.”
Over the next year, the pace at Matravers is certainly planned to step up a gear. Sports awards evenings, sports days, drama, dance and music performance evenings, exhibitions, trips and visits, celebration assemblies, Christmas lunches and the Matravers Big Picnic will all ensure that life at Matravers is certainly not dull!
Having recorded its fourth year of rising results at GCSE and A-level, Matravers is now well-placed to make significant jumps in the outcomes for its students.
Dr Riding said, “Students have responded extremely well to the high expectations that have been made of them. In particular, years 11, 12 and 13 are all expecting to exceed very challenging targets that we have set them in public exams and their work ethic is exceptional.”
The message from Dr Riding is very clear, “Matravers is simply a school where second best is not good enough. I look forward to welcoming you to our open evening on Thursday 26th September at 6.00pm.”
