February’s Inner Wheel talk was on The Nestling Trust by Sue Hamlin, a volunteer nurse, who has been working in Nepal and co-founded the Trust.
She showed us in pictures the devastation in Nepal and the plight of families and orphaned children desperately needing care. Sue was thanked by President Pat Harper and she said that the Club would be giving a donation to The Nestling Trust at the end of the Inner Wheel year.
President Pat then opened the business part of the meeting by lighting the friendship candle and enrolling Linda Golding, Jan Jones, Ann Harvey and Joyce Spencer into full membership of the Club. Pat also welcomed Teresa Hoey who was visiting the Club meeting for the first time.
Although not present thanks were conveyed to Jackie Pike, International Chairman, and all her helpers for organising the World Inner Wheel Day lunch and skittles match. £191.00 had been raised for International Charities. Also Maureen Chapman for organising the monthly lunch at the Three Horseshoes. Everyone agreed the food was good and it had been well attended.
President Pat, Joanna Earney and Jean Heath had enjoyed their visit to Wiltshire Air Ambulance where they had presented the cheque and thanks were given to Sheila Buckton Club Correspondent for sending in the pictures to the White Horse News and the Wiltshire Times.
The President informed members that she and her husband had recently been present at the Town Civic Service at the Parish Church. It was the first held for several years and was well attended.
As usual the various reports were then given. Joanna Earney, Community Service Chairman thanked members for the mince pies and sausage rolls given for the Rotary Carol Concert. It would seem that members had over catered on the mince pies and this would have to be looked at next year. Those left over had been taken to the Foodbank and some to Grassacres.
Forthcoming events planned: Friday 11th March there will be a collection for SPLITZ outside the Co-op Store between 9.30am and 4.30pm. This is in respect of International Womens Day which is actually on 8th March.
Plans are being made to hold a concert with Steeple Rock Choir on Saturday 14th May. Unfortunately a suitable date could not be arranged to hold it in Westbury Parish Church so the venue will be Steeple Ashton Church.
Members were informed that a walk around Warminster Lake in aid of the District Chairman’s Charity ‘Amble for Alzheimers’ would take place sometime in May. Date to be arranged.
Our next pub lunch will be organised by Maureen Coward at The Farmhouse, Southwick on Friday 12th February at 12.15pm. Members were also reminded that Annette Weare will be hosting a Coffee Morning on Thursday 18th February at 10.30am. This will be in aid of International Charities.
Sheila Carruthers also informed members that skittles will commence in May and she would be asking for names of those wishing to take part.
Next meeting is on Thursday 3rd March at the Chalford Hotel, 7.30pm.
