The Westbury window cleaner, Jason Knight, who sustained life-changing injuries when he was electrocuted by an overhead cable, is back home from hospital three months after his accident.
He was welcomed home by his neighbours, who came out to greet him with open arms after decorating the street with banners and balloons. The family kept Jason’s return home a surprise from his eldest daughter who was blown away to see her dad back home after she got home from school.
“We genuinely couldn’t be more thankful to each and every person who has provided support over the past three and half months,” said his sister, Leanna.
“As a family, we have been overwhelmed by the generosity and the willingness to help that the community has shown Jason and his young family, from home-cooked meals, to providing lifts for the family to and from hospital, fundraising efforts and just generally being there to listen and offer a shoulder to cry on.
“It has become evident what a well-liked and popular guy my brother is from the numerous well wishes from his friends and customers. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all.
“This of course isn’t the end of the road for Jason’s rehabilitation journey or indeed our fundraising efforts. In some ways, it’s just the beginning.
“Whilst being home is an incredible achievement – and to put it frankly, something that was so uncertain at numerous points during the early stages of Jason’s recovery – we realise that he still has a long road ahead of him.
“Over the course of the next few months, Jason will have a stair lift installed to help his mobility around his home as well as an electric wheelchair – the latter of which has been funded by the incredible fundraising efforts through Jason’s Cause and all thanks to your generosity and support.
“Jason will require a wet room, and in time will have further discussions with his prosthetic team regarding the options for a prosthetic arm and later, an adapted vehicle – all of which come with their own costs.
“We still very much need your support to make all these things happen for Jason, in an attempt to limit the impact his disabilities have to his day-to-day life. It’s going to be a massive adjustment for Jason and his young family so please do continue to share and support our cause wherever you can.
“Jason will continue to have physiotherapy and has numerous trips back to hospital ahead of him. He will also, at some stage in the next year, have further surgeries on his feet. However, we hope that these things combined, along with the use of specialist aids will enable him to have good quality of life.
“To see my brother walk into his home after the catastrophic injuries he sustained on 6th April is nothing short of a miracle. No words will ever be enough to thank the incredible medical professionals who played a part in Jason’s rehabilitation. Thank you for all that you have done and all that you continue to do – you are true heroes.
