Sun. 16th February. Westbury Ladies Cricket Collingbourne Ladies 130-6 off 16 overs. Westbury Ladies 154-7 off 16 overs.
WESTBURY Ladies Cricket Team celebrated as they won their first game after a close battle with Collingbourne.
They report, “After the last game against Chippenham Ladies we decided to make a few changes to let everyone play a game and experience the new format to the girls’ game.
“Holly Noble, Laura Colborne, Maddie Bias and Ellie Osborne came in for mother and daughter pairing Catharine and Charlotte Morrison, Naomi Tippetts and Becs Lamb.
“With Westbury winning the toss and deciding to bowl, the girls started off excellently with Holly Noble opening the bowling and only going for six runs.
“She was then followed up by Laura Colborne who bowled tight lines and only conceded one run off her opening over.
“The first wicket came in the next over by Dinny Whiting bowling a great line and length with the help of Amy Waller’s superb hands off the back wall.
“Livi Tysoe then started her over as she finished last game with only conceding a few runs. Collingbourne were 28-1 off four overs.
“Next to bowl was Ellie Osborne who started the 5th over with a well bowled wicket to dismiss her opponent. Next wicket to fall was in the 7th over by Holly Morgan with more fantastic fielding and catching by Laura.
“The wickets were tumbling down with the next one going in the 8th over with a caught and bowled by Amy. After eight overs Collingbourne were 47- 4.
“Collingbourne’s 3rd pairing stayed strong for the next four overs with no wickets falling but struggled to score runs due to some tight bowling between Maddie, Livi, Holly N and Ellie with Holly N bowling her 1st of two maidens of the game.
“Collingbourne’s 4th and final pairing came out strong with two fours but got too greedy trying to go for a 3rd which saw Maddie take a sharp catch off Laura’s bowling. Collingbourne continued to score until the 15th over when Holly N took her 2nd maiden but converted it to a wicket maiden when Amy took the catch of the day behind the stumps.
“Westbury took to the hall with first pairing Livi and Amy; there were some good shots made by both players but unfortunately they kept finding the fielders so it was a slow start to innings, with a wicket falling in the 2nd over. The four overs came to an end too quickly for the pairing as they were just getting into their stride.
“Next pairing to come in was Ellie and Maddie who fought well and scored plenty of runs with Westbury’s first four coming in the 6th over and the second in the 8th over. Finishing on 23 runs but with some great catches in the field it meant we lost another three wickets.
“It was time for our 3rd pairing Laura and Dinny who continued the fantastic run chase with three 4s and good running between the wicket. No wickets were lost in their overs faced and Laura got a great total of 20 runs, the top score of the day.
“Fourth and final pairing of our innings was the two Hollys, who continued the quick running between the wickets and some well positioned shots to find the gaps, with the loss of 3 wickets they still made an impressive total of 27 runs.
“Knowing it was going to be a close game, the ladies waited apprehensively for the scores to be calculated. The screams said it all: We’d won our first game!
“Players’ player: Holly Noble.”
