Ladies crowned Wiltshire Cricket Champions

Westbury & District Cricket Club’s Ladies and Girls sections have brought another successful season to a close, with the Ladies crowned Wiltshire Women’s Hardball League champions and the club celebrating the launch of its first-ever Girls side.

The Ladies secured the Wiltshire Women’s Hardball League title by just one point, with the league decided in the final game of the season. A closely fought victory over local rivals Frome Cricket Club saw Westbury cross the line and claim the title.

“It was a real team effort throughout the season, with the squad showing togetherness, determination and team spirit to come out on top in a number of closely contested matches,” said club member Jon Wills.

The Ladies also enjoyed excellent success finishing runners-up in both the Wiltshire Women’s Softball League and the Wiltshire Women’s 100 Softball Cup.

Another major success for the club this season was the launch of Westbury & District Cricket Club’s first-ever Girls side. The new section welcomed girls aged between eight and 12, from experienced young cricketers to those picking up a bat for the very first time.

The girls took part in regular training before putting their new skills into practice in a handful of matches. The highlight came with their first-ever victory, against Melksham – a memorable milestone for the team and an exciting step forward for Girls’ cricket at the club.

The club will celebrate the achievements of both its Ladies and Girls sections at its upcoming end-of-season presentation, before preparations begin for the 2027 season.

“Westbury & District Cricket Club is always keen to welcome new players and volunteers,” added Jon. “Anyone interested in joining the club’s Senior Men’s, Ladies, Youth or Girls teams and becoming part of the Westbury cricket family is encouraged to get in touch via our social media channels.

“We would love to welcome new members, both on and off the pitch, as we continue to grow and build for the future.”
