WESTBURY Infant School have taken the time to reflect on all the different activities that have taken place at the school throughout the year. The children took a trip to an art gallery in Bath, as well as making the most of their new sensory garden and learning how to cook.
Nicky Newbury, deputy headteacher said, “The children have all experienced some fantastic visits and visitors across the past three months, despite Covid restrictions.
“The school has planned trips across the year that give them fantastic opportunities for experiences and trips that they will remember all their lives. Our children have visited the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath where they dressed up as characters from the paintings. They have dressed up as Victorians for an amazing role-play day at Sevington School, and enjoyed a visit from a local cookery school. Our children have also been to the Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford as part of their transport topic, and SS Great Britain, whilst learning about IK Brunel.
“The children are about to visit Charmouth to enhance their learning about Mary Anning. For the final term, we hope to take them to Boscombe Beach, as well as Warminster Park by train, to be park keepers for the day and the Wild Place project in Bristol. Trips are very important to the children to gain hands-on experience and make all those magical memories.
“We are very lucky to have such an active school council who have been busy raising funds, with discos and selling ice pops to name a few. They are becoming quite effective entrepreneurs!
“We recently welcomed back our very special member of the Westbury Infants family – Rosie our school dog! She is a cockapoo and is a bundle of energy and the children enjoy her visiting their classes, taking her out for walks and teaching her new tricks as part of her training. She has had to have an operation recently, but is now back in action. Her arrival has helped many children who have needed a little more emotional support when coming back to school.
“Our Sensory Garden in Oliver’s Orchard is regularly being used by the children for learning outside the classroom, quiet reflective times and ELSA and Thrive sessions. We have a very active wraparound club called Tree Tops for breakfast and after school and the children enjoyed the many activities, as well as a scrummy snack. They enjoy gardening, cooking and arts and crafts especially.
“I am sure that the final term and then the new academic year will provide more exciting learning opportunities and experiences for our children across the curriculum and we look forward to continue on our learning journey at Westbury Infant School.”
