A Morris dancing group that has been performing for three-quarters of a century is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary with a day of dancing and music.
White Horse Morris, which takes its name from the iconic Westbury White Horse, was founded in 1951 by a group of young men keen to preserve the centuries-old English tradition. Since then, the side has performed throughout the UK and toured in Europe, including visits to France and Germany, evolving into the mixed-gender group it is today.
To mark the milestone, White Horse Morris will host a Day of Morris Dancing in Warminster on Saturday 4th July, bringing together Morris sides from across Wiltshire and Somerset for a celebration of traditional dance in the town centre from 10am to 4pm.
The festivities will continue into the evening with live music and a communal music session at The Old Bell in Market Place from 5pm.
White Horse Morris Squire Mike Perry said, “White Horse Morris are the local Morris side, and we love bringing smiles to people’s faces when we dance.
“We add elements of colour and vitality wherever we go, and it’s a privilege to maintain this traditional form of dance that dates back to the 1400s. We’re incredibly proud of our 75-year legacy in the community.”
