The toddler church service at All Saints’ Church recently celebrated 36 years of running.
The First Steps to Worship group meets every week during term time in the children’s corner of the church. Parents, grandparents, carers and childminders bring children aged 0 to five to enjoy toddler Bible stories, music and singing, followed by refreshments and playtime.
The group marked their anniversary with cake and balloons.
“It is hard to believe I have been attending First Steps for 36 years,” said Sharon Jones, who runs the sessions, having first attended them as a parent.
“When I was at home with my own children before I started leading, I found it very helpful as it could be quite lonely. We never mind if someone is late, they are welcome whatever time they can get there. We try hard to be friendly and supportive.
“Over the years I have made lots of friends and am still in touch with some from those early days as well as others gained through the years. The group is smaller now as working parents and free nursery sessions have depleted the numbers a bit.
“We have had parents return as grandparents bringing their grandchildren so whatever we are doing we must be doing it right!”
Sessions are free to attend and take place every Wednesday from 9.30am until 10.30am.
