LONGLEAT has confirmed that it is in discussions with Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis about holding an event on the country estate.
Michael Eavis revealed in an ITV interview at the Bath and West Show that in 2019 he’d like to hold an event on the grounds of the stately home – which he said was the most beautiful site in England – but that there was a long way to go to make it happen.
A Longleat spokesperson told White Horse News, “We are in very early discussions with the festival team about the option of having an event at Longleat for a single year some time in the next few years.
“It is on a very, very preliminary level at this time though. Glastonbury Festival itself is not moving. We don’t have anything else to add.”
Glastonbury Festival has said it is facing increasing pressure to move from its current site in Pilton. Agreements with numerous landowners and pressure on an underground gas pipe have been causing concerns.
This year’s festival kicks off on 22nd June with Adele, Coldplay and Muse headlining.
On Sunday Longleat hosted the legendary Elton John in a concert celebrating its 50th anniversary.
