A RESIDENT of Haynes Road in Westbury calls the condition of the road ‘diabolical’ and says Wiltshire Council is turning a ‘blind eye’ to blocked drains, rumbling traffic and pollution.
Malcolm Smith told White Horse News of his growing concern and the lack of communication from Wiltshire Council following several reports to get the A350 route up to standard.
He said, “The drains on the road are totally full of silt and sand. When it rains, the water spreads over a metre across the road. When pedestrians walk along the road they get drenched by larger vehicles driving through the standing water. It’s disgusting.
“When lorries drive through the standing water, it’s like the sea has jumped out and gone over the pavement. The drains are just full of dust and need to be cleared. It’s been going on for well over a couple of years. I have reported it to the council, but they are choosing to turn a blind eye to it. The pollution on the road is also a big concern. The traffic starts from 4.45am to mid 10am and again then from 3.30pm-6.30pm when it’s absolutely rammed. Surely they can come and do a test on pollution here, the fumes cannot be good for one’s health.
“The holes and dips in the road also make it feel like an earth tremor when I’m in my house and large lorries ricochet out of the holes. I’ve also reported this to both Westbury Town Council and Wiltshire Council but nothing has been done. Something has got to be done about this road, it’s diabolical.”
Wiltshire Council were approached for comment but were unable to provide one before going to press.
