Save money this Christmas and make yourself a fabulous festive jumper on Saturday 5th December at Westbury Library.
Drop by between 2.00 – 4.00pm and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust will help you decorate one of your old jumpers / cardigans or one you’ve bought from a charity shop into an awesome Christmas outfit. Enter it into the Love Your Clothes competition www.loveyourclothes.org.uk/12jumpers to win a sewing machine.
Jessica Thimbleby of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust said, “We’re on track to spend over £300 million this year on Christmas jumpers in the UK but 40% of them will be worn just once or twice before being thrown away.
“Learn how to make stockings or a cute Christmas Tree out of your old jumpers or if being creative’s not for you bring last year’s jumper to swap – refreshments available.
“Keeping Christmas jumpers and other clothes in use for longer reduces the environmental impact of your clothing – reducing carbon emissions, water use and waste.
“We throw away seven tonnes of clothes every 10 minutes in Britain and these are clothes being binned as rubbish, not given to charity or recycled. A shocking 500 million individual garments are being sent to landfill or incinerated every year. Westbury charity shops, clothes banks (Co-op and Morrisons car parks) and your black recycling box at home can take them all – whatever their condition.
Having a pre-Christmas wardrobe clear-out? On the evening of Tuesday 1st December you can bring and swap clothes at our ‘Swish’ at Suave Coffee Shop & Wine Bar, 31 Warminster Rd, Westbury (BA13 3PD) – free entry. Clothing should be clean and decent quality or if you have nothing to bring and are looking for new clothes, please bring a small donation.
