Matravers students celebrate exam success

Year 11 and Year 13 students at Matravers School have celebrated a strong set of results in their GCSE, BTEC and A-level exams.

Sixth-form students collected their A-level and vocational results on Thursday 13th August, with the school reporting “amazing” results.

Top A-level performers included Lucy Williams, who achieved A*AA and is going to study accountancy at the University of Exeter, Oscar Froggatt, who is also going to Exeter to study history after achieving three A grades, Mia Mitchell, who achieved AAB and is going to study chemistry at Warwick, and Jack Butcher, who achieved AAC and is going to study physics.

Some students at Matravers Sixth Form also take on a mixed pathway of A-levels and vocational subjects. Among the successful students this year were Reuben Blunt, who will be studying agriculture after achieving a Distinction, Merit, C and an A grade in his EPQ, Katherine Martin, who has secured a place to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music with a Distinction and two Merits, and Jayden Keep, who achieved a Distinction, B and C and will be studying sports journalism at University Campus of Football Business (UCFB).

Students studying solely vocational subjects also excelled, with Scarlett Baxter achieving a Distinction, Merit and B and securing a place at the University of Bath to study criminology, Hannah Down achieving a Distinction* and two Distinctions, and Oliver Pierce achieving two Distinctions and a B in an EPQ and securing a place at Bath Spa University to study biology.

Director of Post-16 Ian Browning said, “We are very proud of how our students have conducted themselves in their preparation for these important exams and to see the excellent results is very gratifying. Our students are now able to enter the adult world with impressive grades which will allow them to access destinations of their own choosing.”

Year 11 students collected their GCSE and BTEC results on Thursday 20th August. A key measure of the school’s success is its Attainment 8 score of 47.0, maintaining the significant gains achieved in recent years and placing the school above national averages.

Notable results included Maisie Bridgman, Chad Inegbenose, Cher Inegbenose and Imogen Morrison, who each achieved eight Grade 7-9 qualifications.

A further eight students, Lyra Reed Hammond, Stanley Effamy-Till, Alfie Turk, Noah Howells, Izabella Carpenter, Grace Needham, Mya Brewer and Edward Blunt, each secured seven Grade 7-9 qualifications.

Headteacher Dr Simon Riding said, “We are incredibly proud of the achievements of the class of 2026. These results are the product of years of hard work by our pupils, superb support from families and the dedication of our talented staff.

“What is particularly pleasing is that success is no longer the achievement of a small number of individuals. High standards and ambition are now firmly embedded across the school, with pupils consistently rising to the challenges set before them.”
