A 40-foot container was loaded with humanitarian aid by members and friends of the Westbury-based charity Chernobyl Children In Need on 1st July.
On board were tiles, paint, rolls of lino, bicycles, clothes and duvets and gifts for the children, as well as a lot of other humanitarian aid. They are all destined for the Kalinkovichi district of southern Belarus, (an area affected by the Chernobyl accident) in particular the township of Ozarichi.
Theresa Walker, trustee of the local Chernobyl Children in Need group said, “In Ozarichi we support a secondary school, a kindergarten, a hospital, and an old people’s home, and an orphanage in Kalinkovichi
“Each container is worth about £40,000. We are very grateful to all the donors, Center Parcs, Churchill china/Brooks tiles etc and of course all our helpers on the day especially the Army, and Gibbs Transport who allow us to store items.”
Helping to load the container at Gibbs Transport Warehouse was four soldiers from the Warminster Garrison.
