Meeting to discuss dog mess battle

WESTBURY Town Council will be holding an extra meeting on Wednesday 25th March to debate the possible introduction of a warden to  police dog fouling in the town.

The item, which was presented on short notice before the full council meeting on Monday 2nd March, must be put to discussion again to allow for a fair debate.

The change would see a warden service employed in the Westbury and White Horse area picking up dog mess, encouraging owners to pick up after their dogs, and gathering evidence to prosecute those who refuse to do so.

The warden would work in a joint scheme with Warminster Town Council. The proposition has estimated a cost of up to £10,000 for the first year.

The meeting will be open to the public, and is to be held at The Laverton from 7pm.

Councillor Ian Taylor said, “I want dog owners in the town to be aware of  and hopefully get involved with this meeting. It is a direct result of some of their behaviour, and they ought to consider the fact that people could now be employed to keep an eye on them.”
