The Oakfield Choir, based in Frome, is well known in the area for its performances of music from the classical choral repertoire supported by professional soloists and orchestral players.
Following a series of well received concerts the choir decided that it might be time to attempt something a little different, and took a bold move in booking the Frome Memorial Theatre for a performance of Handel’s great oratorio ‘Messiah’ on Saturday 5th December.
They will be joined by singers from the Bath Cantata Group and the Beckington Choir to form a choir of around 90 voices.
The Choir will be accompanied by a period baroque orchestra ‘Quorum’ together with four soloists, Nerissa Faulkner (soprano), Marie Elliott (alto), Andrew Dickinson (tenor) and Craig Bissex (bass) who bring an impressive combination of experience both from the opera stage and concert platform, performing in the UK and internationally.
The concert will be conducted by Neil Moore, a Bath based musician, who is musical director to all three choirs involved, and much in demand not only as a director, but as a singer and instrumentalist. As a director, Neil has also worked with one of the Military Wives Choirs, and has taken a choir to the finals of the BBC Choir of the Year competition.
‘Messiah’ is considered to be the most popular oratorio, and as this is a rare opportunity to hear it performed locally on this scale, and in the comfort of a theatre, you might like to book your seat ‘earlier rather than later’.
The concert will take place on Saturday 5th December at 7.30pm with tickets being available direct from the Memorial Theatre via phone, 01373 462795 online or visit to the box office (open 9.30am to 1.30pm Monday to Saturday). For more details visit www.fmt.website
