The Westbury Model Railway Show returns this month, offering enthusiasts and families a variety of layouts, vintage trains and hands-on activities.
The annual event, organised by the West Wiltshire Gauge 0 Group, will take place at Paragon Hall in Westbury on Saturday 31st October from 10am to 4pm.
This year, there will be a greater variety of layouts and scales, designed to entertain visitors of all ages.
The centrepiece will be Keith Wareham’s 0 Gauge Test Track, where full-length trains will run throughout the day. Visitors can also try operating the children’s tabletop railway with help from club members.
Among the displays will be Boreham Motive Power Depot, being shown to the public for the first time as a work in progress by members of the group.
Other layouts include a vintage Hornby Dublo railway featuring models from the 1940s and 1950s, a modern diesel depot and a narrow-gauge railway built inside a suitcase.
Visitors can also watch construction demonstrations by Bristol 0 Gauge Group and Clapham Modellers, browse traders selling model railway items and books, and try the Scalextric layout depicting a well-known racing circuit.
Refreshments, including hot drinks, filled rolls and cakes, will be available.
Tickets cost £6 for adults, £5 for concessions, £2 for children accompanied by an adult and £12 for families.
“Please note there is a 50mm step up into the hall. Hopefully disabled toilets will be still available in the adjacent car park. There is currently one hour free parking but a ticket must be displayed,” said Rod Towler, West Wiltshire Gauge 0 Group organiser.
