PUPILS at a Westbury primary school celebrated ‘British Values’ on Friday, when they had a visit from the local MP.
Children at Bitham Brook spent the day discovering what it means to be British by exploring British inventions, tasting traditional food including haggis, dressing up as the Queen and drawing pictures of things typically British like an enormous jar of Marmite.
Headteacher David Ross said, “The children all dressed in red, white and blue for the day and loved sharing all that they had found out about being British.”
One child said, “The haggis tasted great, really spicy,” and another said, “The best bit was winning our own Six Nations tag rugby tournament!”
David added, “The day was made even more special with a visit from Dr Andrew Murrison MP, who talked to all the children about what it means to be an MP and how democracy works.
“He then answered some really hard questions from the children including thoughts on Donald Trump, Brexit, his favourite Disney film and the quality of food in the House of Commons.
“Dr Murrison spoke very highly of the children’s enthusiasm and interest, and we are hoping to follow this up with a visit to the Houses of Parliament later this year.
“It was a fantastic way of finding out all about our British Values:- respect, democracy, rule of law and liberty and what is best about being British. We have all learnt so much.”
