A new nail salon could be coming to Westbury’s town centre, with a planning application submitted for 16 High Street. The ground-floor retail space has been empty since February 2024.
A cover letter accompanying the application highlights the unit’s accessibility via the High Street and the availability of nearby parking.
It states, “Nail bars have clearly become a well-established feature of modern high streets. The nail bar use is considered to align with the purpose of the Use Classes overhaul in September 2020, which aimed to ‘better reflect the diversity of uses found on high streets and in town centres and to provide the flexibility for businesses to adapt and diversify to meet changing demands.’
“Given the small size of the unit, its current vacancy, and its previous permission under the retail category (E), the proposed use is considered appropriate for the commercial locality. There would be no material harm to the vitality of this retail location, ensuring that the proposed change harmonises with the existing street scene.
“Further, considering the nature of the proposed use and its surroundings, the size of the unit and associated activities are not expected to cause significant harm to neighbours’ amenity in terms of noise or disturbance.”
The site, located between Parsons Bakery and Mo’s Barbers, was previously occupied by an insurance broker.
A decision on the application is expected by March.
