COUNCILLOR Christine Mitchell is due to become the new Mayor of Westbury, taking over from Cllr David Windess on Tuesday 6th May.
Cllr Mitchell has been Mayor once before, from 2010 to 2011. Her mayoral duties include being chairman of the town council, attending civic events, raising money for her chosen charities, raising the profile of the local community and the council, and promoting public involvement in the council’s activities.
Cllr Mitchell said, “I have lived in Westbury continuously since 1975 and have been a councillor for 10 years. I talk to many people and people also talk to me. I think lots of people know me and aren’t afraid to tell me what they want for the town. I am involved in the planning of many events in Westbury, especially the annual Christmas Street Events Day which I started helping the town council to plan at the beginning of the year. ”
The new mayor’s chosen charities are Welfare of the Elderly (Westbury) and White Horse Day Centre. “They are both very worthwhile charities and I think it is nice to support something local to Westbury,” she said. “I will be raising money and awareness of these charities at civic evenings and throughout many events across Westbury.”
