WESTBURY’S new mayor, cllr Sue Ezra, took over leadership of the town council on Wednesday 9th May.
Cllr Ezra, who has been the deputy mayor for the past year, received the mayoral chain from cllr David Windess. Cllr Mike Cuthbert-Murray has been appointed as deputy mayor.
Cllr Ezra has served on the town council for five years and was previously Westbury’s mayor from 2009-2010. She is involved in many of the town council’s working groups, such as the Diamond Jubilee committee, Christmas in Westbury group, town centre viability group, CCTV, play areas, and tourism groups.
She has also recently been appointed as the representative for the town and parish councils on the Community Operations Board for a Westbury Campus. One of the most important considerations for cllr Ezra is the viability of Westbury’s town centre. She said, “I am interested in holding onto the facilities we do have – the library, the swimming pool, Leighton, and I very much hope we can use the library as the hub. The main point is holding onto the services we do have – I am very passionate about that.”
During her year as mayor, cllr Sue Ezra will be using the Mayor’s Charity to support Dorothy House Hospice Care and the Alzheimer’s Society. Her first fundraiser was the Charity Spring Fayre at the Laverton last weekend. Cllr Ezra also says she will also be giving her “whole-hearted support” to the Westbury foodbank outlet, which operates from Crosspoint’s Welcome Centre.
